Keeping Children Safe is pleased to announce a new free online forum on 29 – 30 September 2026. 

This two-day event with activities in English and French will focus on sharing safeguarding practices and experiences in institutions of higher learning; which enable young people to learn, grow and thrive. 

Why safeguarding matters 

Africa is home to the youngest population in the world, with more than 400 million young people aged between 15 and 35 years old. This generation holds the key to unlocking long-term economic growth, innovation and sustainable development. 

A safeguarding culture contributes to the shaping of inclusive and accountable education and work systems, ready to prevent and to respond to any concern, prioritising the overall wellbeing of each student and impacting the development of their academic and professional trajectory as leaders of change. 

The forum 

This event will convene practitioners, students, academics, leaders and advocates working on safeguarding. We will explore knowledge, best practices and tools, exchange research findings and resources for youth and students and discuss practical approaches to strengthening safeguarding systems in academia. 

Long-term commitment  

Together, we will co-produce a Safeguarding in Higher Education Leaders Compact – a series of key actions and commitments to build a safer academia. During and after the forum, KCS will host a working group, the first of its kind, to collaborate and meaningfully engage with regional leaders to adopt the Compact.
